Pit Slave Gangs

Pit slaves are tough warriors who have both flesh and mental grafted to one another making them more machines than men, but they were not always like this. At one time they could have been an outlaw, caught by the guilders and this was their punishment, or perhaps they were an innocent bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and wound up in this unfortunate situation. Either way, the guilders do not care but instead think of them as their property, as objects, used to satisfy their greed.

The guilders take captured prisoners and graft tools onto their limbs so that they may be used to work in the mines, each with a different tool for a different purpose. Sometimes though, a slave may make a break for freedom, or maybe their will be many slaves trying to escape at the same time. Once out though they will use their implants to their advantage, and get revenge upon those who put them in such a tragic state.

Pit slaves are my favourite Necromunda gang, as I really like robots and cyborgs and the like (the scary thing is that I don’t know why!!!). Pit slave gangs are an outlaw gang, and like most outlaw gangs they are rather different to ordinary gangs, such as the Van saar or Orlocks (well DUH, they do have bloody drills for arms). Unlike most gangs, they do not have heavies or juves and of all the gangs they have the smallest selection of troops. The three units are the leader (whose very hard), the techno (who does all the worky bits) and the basic pit slave (who , for a basic troop, is pretty hard).

As they are an outlaw gang they suffer greatly from lack of funds, although this is made up for in their variety of special rules. Like other outlaw gangs they can forage, although they get –1 to the roll as they are quite noisy, but this is cancelled out by the fact that they only need 2 creds worth of food instead of 3 as they are partly machine. They also have the option of taking off a captured character’s bionic implants and regrafting them onto themselves. They also all have the escape artist skill, which means they can never be captured which is very useful for an outlaw gang as the lack of funds means you usually won’t have enough to purchase another warrior.

Unlike most other gangs, pit slaves don’t make use of heavy weapons (well, not shooty ones anyway), but instead make extensive use of large nasty drills, saws and the like (more detail on these later). A good tactic is to use a variety of weapons in your gang and send men with different weapons around together as most weapons can benefit one another in combat. These are very nasty close combat weapons which is where their main strength lies, so if you want a close combat gang that can rip people to shreds, then this is the one for you.
