Painting White Michael T. Wei Na Painting
white over black is probably the most difficult colour to make look
good. Some people believe that it is best to start off with white.
However with a black undercoat, the miniature will have a more solid
feel to it. The other colours on the miniature also tend to favour a
black undercoat. I
have selected an Apothecary to demonstrate painting white. The technique
used here can be easily
applied to any miniature. Stage 1 First
start with a black undercoat spray. Keep the can at a fair distance of
20mm away from the model. Too close and the paint will run obscuring the
detail. However too far and you will get an orange peel effect. The
paint dries before it hits the model. This causes a bobble texture. Stage 2 Once the spray paint is dry you can move to the base coat. Mix a little washing up liquid with a watered down black paint. Coat the entire model with it. This gives a better surface to paint and covers any areas left out while spraying.
