Tournament Report Joe (The Waaagh the 16th to 17th Jan)Page
1
The
army was chosen based around the Death Guard, the legion of Chaos space
marines that spawned the plague marines. I wanted to do this for two
reasons, firstly because I had never seen a chaos army done like this,
and secondly because I thought it would be cool to see something of the
legion and not just the cult. The
plan was to hold everything back and shoot the crap out of my opponents
before they got near to me and then launch a counter attack with plague
marines, daemons and terminators. I just had to hope that the daemons
wouldn’t turn up too early and get shot. Note
that throughout the tournament I got the rules for summoning my plague
bearers wrong, apologies to all opponents. Game
one: Space wolves I
lost this mainly because of bad luck and rather foolishly not sticking
to my plan. It started quite well with the firepower of most of my army
breaking his blood claws, but I pressed forward far too early and got
overwhelmed. The worst bit of luck was all my las-cannons firing at his
longfangs and despite all of them hitting I caused not a single
casualty. Game
two: Space marines
This
game was played against Ian Wood (an opponent I had previously beaten
with my Tyranids). His army had remained more or less the same, a couple
of scout units, a couple of whirlwinds, the odd landspeeder and all his
units in razorbacks. The scenario roll meant that all units (except
troops and one HQ) started in reserve, so I was able to begin out
numbering him enough to cause concern. I was able to win this game (no
thanks to the plague bearers who turned up on turn two charged some
scouts, killed none and were wiped out in the next turn by his command
squad without causing a single fatality). Because
of the scenario roll I wasn’t able to counter attack as well as I had
hoped, but considering that he wasn’t at full strength either this
wasn’t too catastrophic. My rhino immobilised itself in a forest after
moving two inches, repaired the next turn but was instantly immobilised
again (then my plague marines decided to get out and walk). The
terminators arrived just in time to kill some scouts and clear my
deployment zone, but the plague marines and great unclean one (who had
possessed my lord) made short work of his command squad, several tanks
and devastators winning me the game (had the great unclean one been half
an inch further forward I would have got maximum points for being in his
deployment zone, ah well). Quiz: At
this point the games stopped for the quiz, the questions had their usual
ambiguity (causing much consternation to several participants), but I
was able to score 17 out of 20. Game
3: Alaitoc Eldar The third game was against Anthony Theodossi (team mate and regular opponent of mine). His army was beardy as hell in a protest of previous juding, so I didn’t expect to get even near to winning. Oddly enough I was nowhere near to winning and got thrashed. For once my plague bearers did quite well (killed a bunch of rangers), but in an unusual reversal of fate the rest of my army did bugger all. |
